This spring break my family decided to spend a week hiking through some of the rainforests of my home province of British Columbia.<\/p>\n

My husband, Peter, our eldest daughter, Mistaya, and our youngest daughter, Pip, joined me for our spring break journey. My middle daughter, Tabs, was off on a teenage adventure: visiting her auntie in the Kootenays with a few friends.<\/p>\n

In today’s post I highlight the first hike of our trip, one I found in West Vancouver. We began our trip in Vancouver because we had a business stop to take care of before we headed over to Vancouver Island for some serious rainforest hiking.<\/p>\n

Lighthouse park is a beautiful coastal park with towering old growth Douglas fir trees, cedar trees and stunning views of the ocean, a\u00a0dreamy escape from busy Vancouver.<\/p>\n

However, unfortunately, nearly all of the indigenous animal and many of the plant species are now extinct in the park due to large volumes of human traffic and also because the park has become isolated from other wild spaces–surrounded by urban sprawl.<\/p>\n
