It is earth\u2019s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.<\/span><\/strong><\/em> ~Henry David Thoreau<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>I set out with my youngest daughters and husband to find a secret rainforest that I discovered through my research on\u00a0Earth&#8217;s (one and only) inland, temperate rainforest. I am in love with this unique, inland rainforest partly because I grew up in a section of it near Salmon Arm, BC. I am determined to keep an eye on this forest and help protect it in any way I can because it is home to the <a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/index.php\/earths-inland-temperate-rainforest\/\">endangered mountain caribou<\/a> and wolves at risk (entire packs have recently been slaughtered&#8211;shot from helicopters&#8211;by the BC government).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-15202 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P8230674_Fotor-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" width=\"614\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P8230674_Fotor-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P8230674_Fotor-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/P8230674_Fotor-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Secret Valley, Mix Hart<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This region, with its ancient forest, is fast disappearing and along with the species that call it home. In the 1960&#8217;s a dam was built on lower Arrow Lake (fed by the Columbia River) and this caused the Upper and Lower Arrow Lakes to merge into one, 230 km long lake.
