Kondalilla Falls rainforest is our first Australian rainforest hike. I&#8217;m eager to see how southern, subtropical rainforests compare to the northern, temperate rainforests of my home province of British Columbia (BC).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16269 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/P4080739-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/P4080739-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/P4080739-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/P4080739-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/P4080739.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As soon as we enter the forest, I feel comfortably at home amongst the towering trees&#8211;the air is humid, deliciously fragrant and the trees are tall&#8211;just like BC. However, the humid air in Queensland is not warm but hot, and although tall, the trees are all completely different than Canadian trees; cedar, fir and pine are replaced with eucalyptus and palms. Also, there is very little moss on the trees and none on the forest floor. It is always the forest birds that seduce me and immediately make me feel welcome.
