<\/p>\r\n…those who feel the call of the wild\u2014a deep connectedness to the natural landscapes that they call home.<\/p>\r\n
We literally become a part of these wild scapes\u2014we breath the oxygen provided by the trees, drink the water originating from the mountain top glaciers, consume the bounties of these spaces, walk on the earth and shed traces of our DNA with each step.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
Join me as I uncover the wild scapes that shaped who I am and have left traces in my DNA memory.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
As a Western Canadian of European descent, I feel deeply connected to the Rainforests of British Columbia (BC). I am at home in these Northern Temperate Rainforests. I spent the first few years of my life living in BC’s coastal rainforests, and some of my formative childhood years living in BC’s Interior Rainforest. As an adult, I live in Southern BC, home to BC’s Interior Temperate Rainforest\u2014one of the rarest rainforests on Earth.<\/p>\r\n
The British Columbian Rainforests have been home to Indigenous peoples (Heiltsuk, Nuxalk, Wuikinuxv, Gwa\u2019sala-\u2018Nakwaxda\u2019xw,, Da\u2019naxda\u2019xw \u00a0Quatsino, Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwak\u2019awakw, Ditidaht, Pacheedaht, Saanich, Scia\u2019new, Malahat, Snaw-naw-as, Songhees, T\u2019sou-ke, Hul\u2019qumi\u2019num,\u00a0Sto:lo, Nlaka\u2019pamux, Okanagan, Secwepemc,\u00a0Coast Tsimshian, Haida, Tlingit, Nisga\u2019a, Tahltan ,Ktunaxa, Secwepemc, Stl\u2019atl\u2019imx, Tsilhqot\u2019in, and the Dakelh\u2014to name a few)\u00a0for millennia.<\/p>\r\n
What is the deep, unconscious, connection that I have with the northern rainforests of British Columbia? Could it be that my ancestors are peoples of the northern rainforests?\u00a0<\/p>\r\n
This is my journey into pursuing that wild curiosity\u2014uncovering the truths about the northern rainforests as my home.<\/p>\r\n

I am on a quest to discover the truth about where I come from\u2014uncover what it means to be a person of Earth’s northern rainforests. This is the first instalment that will document my research as I attempt to to step into the ancient rainforest trackways of my ancestors.<\/p>\r\n
I am guided by the ancient Celtic poem, an oral tradition that has been recorded and translated by Alexander Carmichael, in his Carmina Gaelic<\/em>, 1900.<\/p>\r\n Give thou thine heart to the wild magic,<\/p>\r\n To the Lord and the Lady of Nature,<\/p>\r\n Beyond any consideration of this world.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n Do not covet large or small,<\/p>\r\n Do not despise weakling or poor,<\/p>\r\n Semblance of evil allow not near thee,<\/p>\r\n Never give nor earn thou shame.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n The Ancient Harmonies are given thee,<\/p>\r\n Understand them early and prove,<\/p>\r\n Be one with the power of the elements,<\/p>\r\n Put behind thee dishonour and lies.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n Be loyal to the Lord of the Wild Wood,<\/p>\r\n Be true to the Lady of the Stars,<\/p>\r\n Be true to thine own self besides,<\/p>\r\n True to the magic of Nature above all else.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\nThe Celtic Commandments<\/h3>\r\n<\/div>\r\n
