Often, sensitive children develop anxiety at school in an attempt to adjust to the rigourous and overwhelming social demands.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My daughter Pip is a sensitive child. She named the chick a Japanese name as her big sis is obsessed with Japanese culture and language so our home life is a little Japanese.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her grade one classroom had an incubator filled with chicken eggs. The eggs hatched last week and now the incubator is full of little fuzzy chicks.\u00a0Each student has a chick to care for and then, when school ends for the year, the chicks will be returned to a farmer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/?attachment_id=2609\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2609\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2609 aligncenter\" alt=\"IMG_6824\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6824-1024x773.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6824-1024x773.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6824-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a>Pip, Mommy and Hedeki.<\/p>\n<p>Pip told me the other day that she was crying tears of joy because the chicks were going to hatch the next day and she was so excited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Even watching a film about the chicks hatching caused her to tear up with joy and anticipation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2611\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 504px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/?attachment_id=2611\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2611\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2611\" alt=\"IMG_6830\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6830-680x1024.jpg\" width=\"504\" height=\"758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6830-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6830-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6830.jpg 1762w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Pip&#8217;s sis Tabs and Hedeki.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sometimes, the modern world isn&#8217;t designed for such children.<strong> Often it&#8217;s hard for Pippi to find calm and enjoy energetic, social times with large numbers of peers.<\/strong> She can feel overwhelmed. She doesn&#8217;t like sleep overs away from home because she worries at night and cannot sleep.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2612\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 630px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/?attachment_id=2612\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2612\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2612\" alt=\"IMG_6833\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6833-1024x979.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6833-1024x979.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6833-300x286.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">Hedeki and her brother.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her grade one class recently had a year end Pirate Sleep Over in the school gymnasium (Pip&#8217;s teacher is an amazing woman\/teacher who gives her all to her students).<\/p>\n<p><strong>What should have been the most exciting social event of Pip&#8217;s life, was also one of the most stressful.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She cried for a week in advance over her worries: <em>What if I&#8217;m too tired and no one else wants to go to sleep? What if I cry in the night&#8211;the teacher said pirates don&#8217;t cry? What if I miss you (mom) too much?<\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2613\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 630px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/?attachment_id=2613\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2613\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-2613\" alt=\"IMG_6836\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6836-1024x847.jpg\" width=\"630\" height=\"521\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6836-1024x847.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_6836-300x248.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">A wee rooster.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The big night arrived and her anxieties were in full force.<strong> As much as she loved the night&#8217;s exciting events, she felt moments of being overwhelmed all night long.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, Pippi made it through. She had good times and stressful times and was happy to see Mom at iHop for breakfast in the morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What surprised me, is that society seems to be changing, for the better.<\/strong> Everyone is more aware of individual needs and differences. Pippi&#8217;s dedicated, wise and kind teacher played a huge role in making sure Pippi enjoyed her night. Her teacher cuddled her off and on all night long when Pippi cried.\u00a0Also, Pippi&#8217;s\u00a0classmates were very supportive of her anxieties as well as the parents of her classmates.<br \/>\n<strong>Everyone gets that Pip is extra sensitive and her buddies look out for her and try to help.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although the modern world is full of many thrilling new social opportunities that can overwhelm the sensitive child, the modern world is also full of new wisdom.<strong> We get that we are all unique and that it is okay to be afraid.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The schools have come a long way since my eldest daughter was in first grade and there seemed to be little patience or understanding for her sensitive nature.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Another ray of hope for modern society&#8211;we are getting some things right.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chickie Wow-Wow Raising a sensitive child is always joyful and sometimes challenging.
