Time for a little rant: Soccer. Tabs missed our family trip to Nelson the weekend before last and stayed back with her Dad for soccer tryouts. Yes, one can’t just play community soccer anymore without constant tryouts for levels. One weekend of tryouts wasn’t enough so she had a second weekend following that one. And now, she has been told to tryout again for top level again in the spring. How many times must a child feel they are being evaluated each season before they can just play? Shame on minor sports for turning childhood into a competitive market. \u00a0There is plenty of time for kids to get competitive after age twelve at the earliest.
Lucky for us Tabs has tons of confidence and didn’t even care that she didn’t make level one right off the bat.<\/p>\n

I went to Never Let Me Go<\/i><\/b> with Peter last night. True to the novel. Very well done. A sad and depressing story but brilliant none the less. Good casting of the characters.<\/p>\n

Volunteered for Tabs class field trip yesterday to: the library, Military Museum and City Hall (to meet the mayor). A long day but enjoyable as the Tabs loves to have me along. Pip was at Preschool and then went over to her cousins house to play.<\/p>\n

Was supposed to be going to a house warming party tonight but alas, my date has jammed out.<\/p>\n

Attended the grand reopening of the Orchard and wine museums in the Laurel Building this morning. I blew ten dollars on game tickets for the girls. The prizes were horrible: gum and cheap candy. Surely they could have found local businesses to donate better prizes. However, Tabs won a giant elephant stuffy for popping the one ballon with a dot on it with a dart. Yay for my Tabs! She’s very pleased with herself.<\/p>\n

Will take the girls skating tomorrow plus Mist and I have lessons later Sunday. It will be a busy day for me: big mountain hike at dawn, grocery shop and big family house clean-up all before noon.<\/p>\n

We are leaving for a family vacation in Banff on Wednesday until Sunday. We are staying at The Banff Springs Fairmont Hotel<\/i><\/b>. It should be fun. Too early to ski and skate most likely but we will do some hiking and bathing in the hot-springs.<\/p>\n

Will start my thesis study on Monday. Good thing all my work is on my laptop.<\/p>\n

Peter is officially the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at UBCO for the next five years and then he gets a sabbatical for a year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
