I recently saw stills from the anime and was thrilled to see how bang-on the girls costumes are. When his latest anime was not showing in our city, I packed up the car with my kids and their cousins and took us on a road trip the town it was playing in. <em><strong>The Wind Rises<\/strong> <\/em>was a treat. We immersed ourselves in the movie for 2 1\/2 hours. Miyazaki movies inspire true phenomenological immersion (studied a little bit about \u00a0this phenomenon when I wrote my Masters thesis).\u00a0<strong><em>Phenomenological\u00a0Immersion<\/em><\/strong> occurs if while watching his anime, one&#8217;s imagination is activated and one actually feels as though they are immersed in a Miyazaki world. <strong>The great thing about Miyazaki&#8217;s animation is that all of his sets have great architectural detail and we felt as though we were transported to WWII Japan for a few weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180033.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6201\" alt=\"P3180033\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180033-1024x728.jpg\" width=\"656\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180033-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180033-520x370.jpg 520w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180033-260x185.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 656px) 100vw, 656px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nHere we are in Japan (look closely you&#8217;ll see Mount Fuji with its snow cap behind us)! Okay, so we are still in BC but truly, the snow capped mountains and Japanese garden were enough to convince even ourselves we were in Japan for the day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Our road trip included two of my daughters (Tabs was out-of-town visiting an Auntie with her friend) and two of my nieces.<br \/>\nWe began our adventure with a stop at the <strong>Japanese gardens in Penticton,BC<\/strong>. Penticton is a small city on the far southern end of Lake Okanagan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180036.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6200\" alt=\"P3180036\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180036-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"592\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180036-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180036-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180036.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAfter a stroll through the garden we had a spring picnic on the beach of Lake Okanagan and then found our way to the theatre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180037.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-6199\" alt=\"P3180037\" src=\"http:\/\/mixhart.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180037-725x1024.jpg\" width=\"406\" height=\"574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180037-725x1024.jpg 725w, https:\/\/blog.mixhart.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/P3180037-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 406px) 100vw, 406px\" \/><\/a>The theatre was new and so divine! The seats were extra comfortable and we were the only patrons until\u00a0the very last moment when 3 others showed up to watch with us. We found it and the littlest members of our crew purchased a few of their favourite books.
