Sketchy Lemonade Anyone?<\/span><\/h4>\n

All kids eventually want to try and dabble in the art of making money. A lemonade stand with sketchy lemonade eventually materializes on a curb near you and the kids behind the stand are yours.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, their business ventures are bigger, bolder and so much for work for the parents…<\/p>\n

For some reason, whenever my daughter Pippi gets together with her cousin Artemis, their business plans keep growing and growing with their marketing plans not far behind. Their ventures always involve neighbourhood posters, websites and a whole lot of work. I insist they put me as the contact number on the posters (just in case someone actually calls).<\/p>\n

Their businesses usually involve pet care and often they offer their services for free…all I can say is thank goodness we’ve never had any real takers on these services or I might actually have to give up my home to neighbourhood pets to train them in the circus arts, offer them unlicensed veterinary services and feed and house them for months.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Hart of the Sandwich<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n

One of their most recent ventures was in the restaurant business. They thought long and hard to come up with a name and logo for their business and The Hart of the Sandwich<\/em><\/strong> was born.<\/p>\n

The logo was only the beginning. They needed a restaurant…they decided and outdoor restaurant on my front lawn would work.<\/p>\n

Soon our yard resembled a giant garage sale gone awry.<\/p>\n

As the girls set up outside my husband looked worried.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

“We don’t even have sandwich ingredients,” he whispered<\/strong><\/em>, as we stood on the front balcony watching our lawn transform into a restaurant.<\/p>\n

“What’s the worse case\u00a0scenario? Some homeless person shows up for a sandwich and they make one,” I say.<\/p>\n

“With what?” he whispers (as to not offend the budding restauranteurs).<\/p>\n

“I don’t know…with peanut butter and the frozen bread we have in the freezer,” I suggest.<\/p>\n

The Truth About Success<\/span><\/h4>\n

The girls created a menu and then waited for their first customer…and they waited…then they came inside to see if they could make either myself or Peter a sandwich. We had to decline as we’d both already eaten lunch.<\/p>\n

Finally, the girls made themselves each a sandwich with whatever scraps they could find in our refrigerator and took their sandwich plates outside to dine at The Hart of the Sandwich<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
