BC Teachers’ Strike<\/h4>\n

The teachers’ strike in BC<\/a> is in full swing\u2014since last June! From day one I have supported the teachers in this strike because of how little the BC government puts into public education budgets compared to other provinces and the fact that the government funds a large portion of private schools in this province. Furthermore, the government is breaking the law by refusing to comply with the supreme court law that enables teachers to negotiate class size and composition.<\/p>\n

Parents and Students in Support of Public Education<\/h4>\n

I want a province of haves<\/strong> not<\/em> have\/have-nots<\/strong>. I believe in equal education for all children.<\/p>\n

It is horrible having no school<\/a> for my children. They are stressed. They love school and worry they are missing learning and social opportunities. It is hard on all of us parents who work and cannot take their children on an extended summer vacation to wait out the strike.<\/p>\n

BC students want Christy Clark to hear their voices<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

My sister took her children and I took Pip (Tabs was coaching a soccer game) to protest outside the premier Christy Clark’s constituency office along with many other parents and teachers.<\/p>\n

The girls made their own posters and my sister and I proudly displayed them.<\/p>\n

I suppose the good that comes out of protesting is that our kids realize sometimes school isn’t a given. It’s a privilege that many other children on this earth are robbed of. They also learn to stand up and protest when important civil liberties are violated.<\/p>\n

It has not been easy on us: students and parents. It is our voices that go unheard;<\/strong><\/p>\n
