I woke up yesterday morning to a complete surprise. Over night, unexpectedly, our mountain had turned from a rust fall palette into a brilliant, white, winter wonderland. My excited rambling to the dogs roused my youngest daughters and then we all decided that we had to immediately get dressed and take the dogs on a forest walk in the dark.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter how old I get, the first surprise snow fall of the season is always magical and I have to go out and explore the wondrous works of art that nature has temporarily displayed in my neighbourhood. Mother nature did not disappoint. It was a grand exhibition of fascinating sculptures throughout the forest. I hope you enjoy our six a.m. forest walk on yesterday morn.<\/p>\n

I love that when we walk by the fir trees, little warbled voices call out to us. The dear California quails seem to be asking us passerbys, in chirps as rounded and soft as their bodies, “Could you kindly remove the snow so we might leave the trees this morning?”<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the tree below could not recover from the wet snow’s weight and its roots left the soil.<\/p>\n
