\nWallpapers in Dialogue with Emily Carr<\/h4>\n

\"OLYMPUS<\/a><\/p>\n

A trip to Vancouver always includes a tour of the VAG for my family and I. This time we were treated to Cezanne and the Modern<\/em>\u2014impressionist paintings (a few sculptures) and an interesting interactive visit to Wallpapers in Dialogue with Emily Carr<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The only photography allowed in the gallery is at the Wallpaper…<\/em>and Emily Carr exhibits. Thus, that is what you will be viewing in this post!<\/p>\n

\"OLYMPUS<\/a>\"OLYMPUS<\/a><\/p>\n

The Wallpaper…<\/em>exhibit (by artists: Sara Ludy, Nicolas Sassoon and Sylvain Sailly) uses technology to attempt to mimic the way we interact with the visual and physical aspects of being in nature through light, scale and pattern.<\/p>\n

\"OLYMPUS<\/a> \"OLYMPUS<\/a> \"OLYMPUS<\/a> \"OLYMPUS<\/a> \"OLYMPUS<\/a>As one obsessed with nature (I spend a portion of each and everyday immersed in nature), I can say the experience was anything but natural\u00a0(nature is smells, temperature, textures, densities, sounds and air\/water currents) and to isolate aspects such as light, pattern and scale didn’t work for me, perhaps because the scale of nature is so vast that it is impossible to mimic in a gallery setting. However, despite not seeming natural to me in the least, it was a fun exhibit. My daughters and I loved interacting with the patterns and lights in the large room. Thus, in this aspect, Wallpaper..<\/em>. is a success: nature is fun and so is the exhibit.<\/p>\n

Afterwards, we were treated to some of Emily Carr’s paintings in another gallery.<\/p>\n
