In Search of Rock Oven #11<\/h4>\n

Usually, when I cycle the KVR, I’m on a marathon cycling adventure with little time to stop and explore the sites. I pass by the \u00a0most magnificent forests that call my name and have to tear myself away and onward.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago my family (except my eldest daughter Mist) and sister Miranda’s family went for a bike along the KVR towards Naramata. The goal was to stop and hike amongst the old growth ponderosas.<\/p>\n

Finally, I got to get off the bike and explore the magnificent forests of the Monashee Mountains!<\/p>\n

We attempted to find an ancient rock oven built by the railway crew over one hundred years ago. The railway workers used the oven to cook their meals as they laboured (creating one of the most trecherous high-altitude railway passes in the world).<\/p>\n

\"P5180021_Fotor\"<\/a>Exploring the forests of BC is like touring the most wondrous art gallery in the universe. There are so many exquisite natural wonders on scales that are micro and macro. There are much more butterflies and birds in the forest than in the city. I kept spotting this small blue butterfly that I’d never seen before in BC.<\/p>\n

We never did find the rock oven, or if we did we walked right past\u00a0it without realizing…<\/p>\n
