As 2015 comes to an end, I share one simple truth that I learned this year: the forest never disappoints. The forest has taught me so much about life. I learn new things from the trees every day. Each and every trip into the wilderness brings new adventure.<\/p>\n

My youngest daughter Pippi and I headed into the forest for a tobogganing adventure this week, just before the sun set, on the night before Christmas Eve (we’re fortunate to simply walk into the forest on the mountain were we live and search for good slopes).<\/p>\n

A large herd of deer wondered onto our tobogganing slope and we soon realized that it was breeding season.<\/strong> They were all peeing\u2014a lot.<\/p>\n

A rouge young buck crossed the bottom of our toboggan run and wandered towards the herd. We watched the older buck rise from beneath a tree where he was resting and walk towards the new buck. At this point, we got a tad nervous. The deer appeared to be in rut and things could get ugly.<\/p>\n

The deer were determined to keep wandering up the hill, towards us, effectively cutting off our route home. We decided to go up to the top on the mountain. From there we trailblazer a new path to the bottom of the mountain, “freestyle tobogganing” through the forest to get down. It was a wilderness tobogganing adventure! Pip and I both live for those moments.<\/p>\n

On Christmas morning, my sister Miranda and niece Artemis joined us on another forest adventure.\u00a0A winter’s day is magically elevated to unbelievably great when you give yourself time to lie back in the snow for no other reason than to look at the sky.<\/strong><\/p>\n
