Dr. Leu & Pippi Too!

Pippi’s family party. Pictures include lunch at Red Robin and opening presents in the morning on Mom & Dad’s bed. Pippi had a wonderful day, her sisters spoiled her. On her way down to daycare she sang “Happy Birthday to Me!” to herself.
I went to the literacy conference which was so incredible! Peter was crushed that he didn’t attend because unbeknown to us, the speaker was Dr. Donald Leu–the author of the giant book Peter is rereading to prepare for his PhD defense! I had no idea that Dr. Leu was the conference speaker. The name didn’t click until I was sitting across from him eating dinner. Suddenly I realized it is his name I have been quoting in my papers and his textbooks I have been reading. He is from Connecticut and he is a leader in new literacies. His specialty is reading online. I chatted with him about my thesis idea and my writing. He is a really kind, intelligent man. I would Love to have him as a PhD supervisor. I learned a lot from him and he is very inspirational in the field. Apparently China (no surprise there) will be the next explosion of studying the New Literacies.
I still have that nasty cold which is touch and go if it will invade my chest. Today I shall take it easy. Will meet my Uni friends to work tomorrow morning. PJ is in Vancouver yet again–perhaps we should invest in a flat there! Pip will accompany me to my meeting–she is so good natured–I plan for her to colour while we work.
Mist’s team won their Basketball game last night! She is trying out for a play and attending a Social Justice meeting after school today. Tabs is allergic to fried food and soy–she gets bowel cramps. So no more fast food and soy milk for her. Pip also gets hives from soy milk.
